The Life and Legacy of Frederick Roberts
A Tribute to a Beloved Husband, Father, and Community Member
Frederick Roberts was born on March 10, 1942, in Atlanta, GA, to the late Harry Roberts and the late Annie Pearl Broom. He was the third of six children. Frederick graduated from South Fulton High School in East Point, GA, in 1963, where he was known as an outstanding football player.
On February 14, 1983, Frederick united in marriage with Ms. Barbara Young. Their union was blessed with a blended family of eight children: Cheryl, Stanley, Charlene, Audrey, Cynthia, Jarvis, and Sean. Together, they created a loving home filled with joy and memories.
Frederick dedicated 35 years of his life working as a welder for CSX Railroad before retiring. During his tenure at CSX, he demonstrated remarkable entrepreneurial spirit by simultaneously owning and operating a successful restaurant for 13 years, Flava Real Pit Bar-B-Que, in Ellenwood, GA, alongside his wife. Frederick had a passion for grilling and landscaping, which brought him immense joy.
A devout member of the Villa Rica Church of Christ in Villa Rica, GA, Frederick cherished attending church whenever he could. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he found great solace in his church community.
He often volunteered at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Douglasville, GA where he boxed food and distributed to those less fortunate and homeless. He inspired others to volunteer and get involved in community service, which from time to time his children and friends would join him.
Frederick was called from labor to reward on Sunday, January 26, 2025. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his son Stanley Thomas, his daughter Marcia Thomas, and two sisters, Mary Alice Hawkins (Earnest) and Marva Grier (Grady), as well as his brother, Harry Roberts, Jr. (Catherine).
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Barbara Young Roberts of Douglasville, GA; his children: Cheryl and Dreyfus Brady of Stockbridge, GA; Charlene and Stanley Simmons of Statham, GA; Audrey Thomas of Bowie, MD; Cynthia Roland of Lawrenceville, GA; Jarvis Roberts of Jonesboro, GA; Sean and Theresa Roberts of Jonesboro, GA; his sister: Beverly and Lee Sims of Chattanooga, TN; and his brother: Clifford and Evelyn Roberts of Decatur, GA. Frederick is also survived by several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who will miss him dearly.
The Family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at the Villa Rica Church of Christ. The Funeral Service will be conducted on the same day at 1:00 PM at the Villa Rica Church of Christ, with Minister Patrick Gray officiating.
Frederick Roberts's life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and love for his family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his memory will forever be cherished.
