Frederick Schweikert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rogers Funeral Home, Inc. - Philadelphia on Jan. 15, 2026.
Frederick J Schweikert, affectionately known as "Pete", passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026. He was born May 10, 1935 to Fred and Dorothy (nee Pierce) Schweikert and is predeceased by his younger siblings, Jimmy, Billy and Dorothy.

Fred entered the military and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy aboard the USS Intrepid. On May 19, 1962, he married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Kelly, and raised three boys in the Grays Ferry section of South Philadelphia. The family takes comfort in knowing he is once again with his Bride after being apart for twelve years.

Fred was also a proud firefighter of the Philadelphia Fire Department for 30 years. Once retired, he moved his Bride to West Wildwood, NJ., but would come back to spend the holidays with their family in South Philadelphia. Fred loved the New Year's parade, especially following Froggy Carr down Broad Street. He would spend his Sunday mornings walking around the neighborhood to hear the string bands play and always looked forward to their concerts outside the Mummer's Museum in the springtime.

Pete was the loving father to Fred (Erin), Richard (Bridget), and the late Eric, the beloved Pop Pete to Shayne, Jenna (Dan) LaJudice, Danielle, Kevin, and the late Erin; and devoted great grandfather to Layla and Riley. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing and Funeral, Tuesday, January 20, 2026 after 8 AM from the Rogers Funeral Home, Inc., 1426-30 South 3rd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147 followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM from Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 1404 S. 3rd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147. Interment will follow at SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Pete's name to the Katie Kirlin Fund, 229 Wolf Street, Philadelphia, PA 19148 (www.katiekirlinfund.org).
