It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frederick Silva, Sr., who left this world on January 1, 2026, at the age of 64. Born on August 18, 1961, in
Brooklyn, NY, Frederick brought a spark of life and laughter to all who knew him. He passed away peacefully at his home in
Jacksonville, NC, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, humor, and love.
Frederick was a man of many talents, with a knack for fixing anything that came his way. His life was filled with a variety of odd jobs while living in Newark, New Jersey, before relocating to Jacksonville to be near family. He earned a reputation as a reliable handyman; his hands-on skills were matched only by his quick wit and contagious laugh, marking him as a true jokester and a delight to be around.
Frederick was known for his discerning taste as a beer connoisseur, the cheaper the brand, the better. He relished watching TV, finding joy in shows like "Pawn Stars," and sharing good times at festivals. Many friends and family will fondly remember his famous empanadas along with other dishes he cooked.
Frederick is survived by his loving children, Vanessa Vasquez, Frederick Silva Jr., Vincent Silva and Andres Auad. His legacy continues with his cherished grandchildren, Lane Vasquez, Renzo Patrick Cage Silva, and Juliana Auad. He also leaves behind his mother, Floriba (Rosada) Silva and brothers, Melvin Silva, Orlando Silva, and Danny Silva.
He is preceded in death by the love of his life for 40 years, Catherine "Cathy" Coccia and his father, Louis Silva.
Those who crossed paths with Frederick knew him as a man who lived life on his own terms. He was never one to mince words, speaking his mind with a blunt honesty that endeared him to many. Despite his straightforward nature, or perhaps because of it, he filled every room with warmth and an unmistakable sense of fun.
In this time of mourning, we remember Frederick for the joy he brought into our lives and the lasting impact of his presence. Services will be held at a later date, as we gather to celebrate a life well-lived and to share stories of a man whose spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
