Frederick M. "Fred" Small

Frederick M. Small, 60, of Whitman, Massachusetts passed away peacefully
surrounded by family on July 29th after a courageous battle with a long-term illness.
Born in Milton, Massachusetts on January 9, 1964, he was the son of the late Alyce (Freedman) Small and the late Monte Small.
Fred graduated from Brockton High School and turned his passion for cars into a successful career in the automotive industry. Fred was the proud business owner of Frederick M. Small Insurance Services.
Fred was an avid lover of all sports- especially his Boston teams. Fred was a proud member of the Whitman-Hanson School Committee and the Whitman Republican Town Committee. Fred loved to serve his community. He had the biggest heart and larger-than-life personality. Fred was a champion for any cause and always went to bat for his family, friends, and community.
His greatest accomplishment was being a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin, and friend to all of those close to him.
Fred is survived by his beloved wife Nancy (Hover) of 28 years, his children Janel Smith and her husband John of Whitman, John Cookson and his wife Jillian of Bridgewater, Kevin Mayer (his adopted son) of Whitman, along with his grandchildren Jacob Smith and wife Ashley, Aly, Logan, and his newest grandson John B Cookson V. Fred will also be greatly missed by his trusty sidekick golden doodle Lexi.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Funeral Services on Friday at 10 a.m. at Calvary Chapel, 175 Market Street, Rockland. Burial to follow. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Blanchard Funeral Home, 666 Plymouth Street, Whitman.
