Frederick Snizek Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John L. Matt Funeral Home - Chadwicks on Dec. 30, 2025.
Frederick S. Snizek (Summerfield, Fl), born April 30, 1930, In Yorkville, NY, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025. His remarkable life journey was marked by significant accomplishments and a profound dedication to his passions and pursuits.

After graduating from Whitesboro High School, Fred served his country with honor in the United States Navy during the Korean War, an experience that undoubtedly shaped his character and professional path. His military service instilled in him values of loyalty, integrity, and honor, which he carried into every aspect of his life. Following his military service, he pursued higher education at SUNY Canton, where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. This foundation led him to a pivotal role as a project manager at General Electric on the Navy's E-2C Hawkeye radar systems, a testament to his expertise and commitment to innovation.

In addition to his technical career, Fred was a dedicated educator, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for electricity with students at Mohawk Valley Community College. His ability to inspire and educate left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to learn from him.

During his career path in electronics, Fred married Janet (Karas) Snizek of Stark Street (Utica). Their partnership was a testament to love and commitment, and together they built a life filled with joy and togetherness. They enjoyed raising their five sons, building a family business and finding the time to travel together throughout their lifetime.

Together with his loving wife Janet, Fred embarked on a unique venture, designing, building, and operating Crystal Springs Golf Course in Vernon, New York, from 1968 to 1996. This endeavor not only showcased his entrepreneurial spirit but also his deep love for golf. Fred was an avid golfer, known for organizing memorable golf excursions to Mt. Airy Lodge, bringing joy and camaraderie to the Crystal Springs golf family. Fred's hobbies and interests painted a picture of a vibrant man who embraced life to the fullest. As he loved the game of golf, he spent countless hours on the golf course, often bringing laughter to the game with his collection of fun noisemaking golf toys, silly hats, and humorous t-shirts that showcased his playful spirit. Each golf tournament was not just a competition for him; it was an opportunity to spread joy and laughter among his friends and peers.

Fred's love for life extended beyond his professional and sporting endeavors. He cherished his winters in Florida, savoring the respite from New York's harsh winters. Those who knew him well fondly remember his enjoyment of butterscotch schnapps moments at the golf course and his love for a good buffet, a reflection of his ability to find joy in the simple pleasures.

Fred was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Janet Snizek (Karas), Father and Mother John & Helen Snizek, his sons, Steven Snizek and John Snizek. His surviving sons - Edward Snizek (Suzanne), Paul Snizek, and Thomas Snizek (Jackie), continue to live on and honor his legacy. His absolute joy was sharing moments with his 9 grandchildren Sarah (Snizek) Mavor; Laura (Snizek) Ramirez; Krista (Snizek) Martin; Matt Snizek; Kelly (Snizek) Buffa; Melissa (Snizek) Jones; Amanda (Snizek) D'Elia; Emma Snizek; Jonah Snizek and 11 great children. He once coined the phrase, " if I knew grandchildren were going to be this much fun, I would have had them first."

A memorial gathering will be held in the spring at a place of the family's choosing. This way, Fred will not have to endure the winter chill once more. A church service will also follow at Sacred Heart St. Mary Church in New York Mills, with the date to be announced. Fred's life was a tapestry of service, education, and joy, and he leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.

We are so sorry for your loss. Fred was such a good man. He always made us feel so welcome at "The Spa". Jim Sr. will be glad to see him, making up lost time ribbing each other, critiquing the golf courses and getting a few rounds in themselves.
