Dayville - Frederick Charles Spring, 94, of
Dayville, CT died Friday January 16, 2026. Born in
Brooklyn, NY, he was the youngest of 12 children of the late Joseph and Florence (Butler) Spring.
As a young man Frederick was a Chosin Marine - one of the few who endured one of the most savage battles in American military history. Serving with Dog Company, 7th Marines during the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir, he fought in subzero temperatures, surrounded by overwhelming enemy forces, where survival demanded unimaginable strength and brotherhood. He was one of those warriors. His courage, grit, and unbreakable spirit defined who he was for the rest of his life. Semper Fidelis.
Frederick was a world traveler for business. He was the owner of Soyee products which continues to be proudly run by his daughter Maureen McNeil.
Frederick was the loving father of Margaret Spring (Marianne), Karen Bartolotta (Robert), Kathleen Spring (deceased), Frederick Jr. Spring, Joseph Spring (Liz), Maureen McNeil (Richard) and Jennifer Fowler (Steven). Cherished grandfather of 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A time of visitation to honor and remember our Frederick will be held at Gilman Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Church Street,
Putnam, CT, on Tuesday, January 20th, from 5:00PM–8:00 PM. The funeral will assemble at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 9:30AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial with Military Honors at 11:00 AM at Most Holy Trinity Church, 568 Pomfret Street, Pomfret, CT, burial at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY.
