Richard Spring Obituary

Richard Joseph Spring Sr., age 85, passed away on January 7, 2026, in Sacramento, CA, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born on February 2, 1940, in Twin Falls, Idaho, a son of the late Stella and Aloysius John ("AJ") Spring. Richard graduated from CSU Chico with a degree in engineering, and worked for 40 years for the State of California in the Dept of Water Resources and Cal Trans. Richard was a skilled woodworker and stained glass window creator, gifting many treasured pieces to his children and grandchildren over the years. His practical knowledge and engineering expertise resulted in many home improvements for his family, neighbors and friends. Richard's deep Catholic faith was the foundation of his daily life, made evident in his many activities in his parish community, love of Notre Dame football, and never-ending efforts to be of service to all who knew him. Richard is survived by his wife Karolyn of 64 years, daughters Denise (Sam Moskowitz) and Monica Macy (Steve), son Rick (Jinny), grandchildren Sarah and Jessica Moskowitz, Alexis and Anthony Macy, Arik Spring and Carina Petersen, brother John Spring (Delette) and sister Mary Ann McNally (Pat). He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Tom Spring, and daughter Christine Spring LeBarre. Dear Karolyn and Family: My heart is full of sadness at the passing of Rich. May God grant you peace and consolation knowing what a loving person he was. He was a steadfast supporter of MERC and friend to all of us. May he rest forever in the arms of the Lord.

Dear Mrs. Spring (Karolyn) and Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this sad time. I have so many fond memories of Mr. Spring at St Robert´s, Bishop Manogue, and in the neighborhood. He was always such a help to my dad with whatever was needed, and a dear friend to our family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. There is another angel in Heaven now. I pray that God will bless you with comfort and peace during this difficult time.

My deepest condolences to the Spring family on the loss of their beloved patriarch. I am sure his gentle spirit is watching over all of you as your angel in the Heavens above. I truly hope you feel his loving presence often. Dearest Karolyn: you were the school secretary when my children attended St. Robert and you were always so positive, kind and caring to all. Sending you and your family much love and prayers of comfort during this very difficult time.
