Frederick A. “Fred” Surprenant, 81, of Manchester, NH, passed away on February 21, 2026, after a brief illness. He passed at the home of his granddaughter and caregiver, Jessica Guerin and grandson, Aiden.


Fred was born on August 4, 1944, in Lowell, to Frederick A. Surprenant and Marie A. (Laferriere) Surprenant. He was an avid participant in Civil War reenactments with his children, all wearing period clothing and spending nights in period tents with scratchy wool blankets. He also enjoyed playing pool at the Pastime Club and collecting black powder guns.


Fred is preceded in death by his brothers, Robert J. and Donald P. Surprenant and his sisters, Pauline McKinnon, Patricia Chandonnet and Lorraine Moore.


He is survived by his brother, Richard J. Surprenant; his four children and their spouses, Kenneth and Melanie Surprenant, David Surprenant and Elizabeth Callahan, Michelle and Michael Everett and Kevin and Anna Surprenant; his eleven grandchildren, Justin, Nicole, Jessica, Brien, Devan, Kayla, Alyssa, Kendra, Kyle, Michael and Samuel; and many great-grandchildren.


"Grampy" will be affectionately remembered for his deep love of family and his signature dad jokes.


Relatives and friends are invited to Fred’s funeral service on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at 12:00 PM in ST. JOSEPH CEMETERY CHAPEL, 96 Riverneck Road, Chelmsford.
