Gardiner- Fred Thibeau, 94, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones in the comfort of his own home. Born in Calais, Maine, on April 19, 1930, Fred was the proud son of the late William and Mary (Boudreau) Thibeau. He was a standout athlete at Gardiner Area High School, earning a reputation as a force to be reckoned with in every sport, and a love for friendly competition that lasted a lifetime.
After high school, Fred traded in his athletic gear for Army boots and proudly served as a first-class sergeant in Austria. Once back in Gardiner, he married the love of his life, Geraldine, with whom he shared 62 years of adventure, laughter, and a bit of mischief. Together, they raised their family and made countless memories.
Fred worked for 42 years at Yorktowne Paper Mill, eventually retiring as Superintendent in 1992. In retirement, Fred embraced the title of "Master of Many Trades," spending countless hours helping his kids and friends renovate homes. Whether at his camp on Tacoma Lakes, on the golf course, or enjoying an afternoon adventure at the casino, he knew how to embrace the moment. More than anything, Fred treasured the time he spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A special thanks to Dr. Carolyn Pece, the staff at the VA in Togus, and the team at Beacon Hospice for their kindness and care.
We would like to thank our brother Beaver for his early retirement to take care of our dad for the past two years.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Geraldine; son Frederick "Doc" Thibeau; brothers, Donald and Leonard Thibeau; and sister Geraldine Crocker Moody. Fred is survived by his son, Thomas "Beaver" Thibeau, Randall Thibeau and his wife Lisa, his daughter Kathy Jo Goggin and her husband Jack, and his daughter-in-law Karen Thibeau. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Eryne, Hayley, and Kelsi Thibeau, Shelby McNaughton and her husband DJ; great-grandchildren Lennon and Harper McNaughton; his brother, Phil Thibeau; sisters-in-law, Lavenia Thibeau and Helen Thibeau; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service for friends and family will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, November 15, 2024 at Oak Grove Cemetery, Gardiner, ME. Friends and family are invited to join us for a Celebration in Fred's honor at his daughter's house at 460 Pond Road, West Gardiner, in the garage he built, on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 12:00pm to 4:00pm, complete with stories, laughter, and memories.
