GARDINER - Monique G. Stickles, 91, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025, with her loved ones by her side. Affectionately known as Meme, Mom and Moni"Q", she was a beacon of hospitality, generosity, and compassion that brightly shone on all those who were fortunate enough to know her. Born in Priassac, France on July 12, 1934, Monique's journey was as captivating as her spirit. It began by surviving the occupation of France during WWII. She met her husband of 63 years who was in the Air Force and stationed in France. She learned to speak English and gained her citizenship so that she could create a home for her children in America.
Monique was a dedicated homemaker who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. You would never visit her home without being offered a drink and "munchies". She was a loving wife, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and was overjoyed to become a great-great-grandmother for the first time recently with a second on the way. Monique never forgot a birthday or anniversary. She was a fervent supporter of the Catholic faith and the Pope. Her favorite pastimes included watching golf, French TV, keeping up with the British Royal Family, and game shows, but what truly brought her joy was spending time with her family. A member of the American Legion and the Eagle's Club, Monique made friends everywhere she visited. When she was younger, she enjoyed knitting and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ferdinand Mauduit and Germaine Gerbaud Mauduit; two great grandchildren, Abraham Stickles and Christopher Stickles; five siblings, Gaston Mauduit, Marcelle Mauduit, Pierre Mauduit, Robert Mauduit, and Yvette Mauduit.
Today, her spirit lives on in her surviving family, husband Robert A. Stickles, Jr.; two siblings, Jean Claude Mauduit, and Jeanine Gautron; three children, Nadine Clark and husband Steven, Margaret Parker, Christian Stickles and wife Marie; five grandchildren, Kristina Clark, Stephanie Clark, Jessica Childs and husband Brent, Christopher Stickles and wife Holly, Adam Stickles and wife Lindsey; six great grandchildren, Jeremiah Childs and wife Erica, Sophie Childs, Landon Stickles, Alyssa Stickles, Katie Stickles, Haley Cloutier; two great-great grandchildren, Eloise Childs and one to be born; many nieces and nephews, and all those who were privileged to call her family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 1:00 pm at the North Baptist Church, 1881 Hallowell Road, Litchfield, Maine, 04350.
We invite you to share your memories and upload photos of Monique on her memorial page at www.staplesfuneralhome.com, where her spirit will continue to live on. Let's celebrate Monique Ginette Stickles, a woman whose love was as boundless as her spirit.
Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine.
