John Joseph Stickles (Jack), 92, of Housatonic, died peacefully on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at his home.
Born in Great Barrington on July 6, 1932, son of Carl and Margaret Usher Stickles, he was educated in Great Barrington schools and was a 1950 graduate of Searles High School.
A Korean War Veteran, John was inducted into the United States Army on January 15, 1953, served a year and a half overseas, earned the rank of Corporal, and was honorably discharged on December 28, 1954.
John was employed as a polisher for Pittsfield Mold and Tool. He retired in 1993.
John was predeceased by his wife, the former Maragret M. Rochelo, with whom he married November 12, 1960.
John is survived by his son, Gary M. Stickles of Housatonic, and his close friend, Nancy Torrico, of Monterey, MA with whom he spent many enjoyable winters in Venice, Florida. At the end of his journey his face would light up when she was there to spend time with him. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, brother-in-law's and cousins.
In his final months one of his favorite things was when his son, Gary, would take him out on Sunday rides. He loved to stop at the airport to watch the planes coming in and out.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Francis Usher, and his sister, Marion Usher Carossi.
John's family expresses special thanks to his care team at HospiceCare in The Berkshires and his aides, Lisa and Judie, for their exceptional care, kindness and the compassion they had shown to him.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for John J. Stickles will be private, with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery. The family suggests that those wishing to do so may make memorial contributions to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
