Joel Giguere Obituary

Joel Paul Giguere, 91 of Pittsfield, passed away July 14, 2025 at home. Born in Pittsfield on June 30, 1934 to Raymond and Alice Lewis Delphia.

He was educated in Pittsfield schools. Joel was a United States Navy Veteran. During that time, he was a member of the USS Wren Association and was a rank school instructor in the Navy. He enjoyed going to Navy reunions every 18 months to different states in the US.

Mr. Giguere married the former Constance M. Rivard on May 17, 1958 at Notre Dame Church in Pittsfield.

Joel was a health inspector for the City of Pittsfield for many years, retiring in 1993. Prior to that he was the manager at A&P Food Company. After retirement he worked as a driver and bellman at Canyon Ranch in Lenox.

A communicant of St. Joseph Church, he was a member of the Taconic Chapter of Trout Unlimited, where he was the past president. He was an active member of bowling leagues in Pittsfield, enjoyed traveling, especially to Russia, Greece and the Baltic Sea with Father Mike. He also took pleasure in going to casinos with his wife, and gardening.

Mr. Giguere is survived by his wife of 67 years, Constance Giguere of Pittsfield. Their children, Lisa A. Maston (Dennis), Denise M. Ronan (Raymond), Annemarie Maston (William). Eight grandchildren, Thomas Biggart (Meredith), Kim Tinney (Andy), Jeffrey Vyska (Julie), Katie Vyska, Gregory Vyska (Cheyenne), Rebecca Vyska, Abigail Ronan, Kelly Adams (Jordan); sixteen great-grandchildren, Brian and Alex Vyska, Brayden, Myles and Eli Biggart, Joshua Favre and Alliana Tinney, Allanah, Austin, Daniel and Michael McCabe, Mia and Mason Vandesteene, Madison March and Everly and Henry Adams. He is also survived by his sister in-law Sally Delphia and brothers in law Edgar Rivard (Nancy) of Muskogee, OK and Robert Rivard (Mary) of Hickory, North Carolina. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter Michele M. Womble, brother Raymond J. Delphia, sister in-law Barbara Rivard. and step-father Paul Giguere.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held, Thursday, July 24, 2025 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Church. Entombment with Military honors will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 11 to 12:30 at Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his name to St. Joseph Church, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
