RICHFIELD SPRINGS - 1934 – 2022 Frederick C. Vertucci, age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, November 7, 2022 in his home with the love and support of his family by his side.
He was born on June 2, 1934 in Cooperstown, son of the late Antonio and Elizabeth (Famulare) Vertucci. Fred was a graduate of Richfield Springs Central School. On July 16, 1952 he enlisted in the US Marine Corps, proudly serving his country in the Korean War until his honorable discharge on July 15, 1955. On March 5, 1955, he was united in marriage to Joy Emerson in Miami, FL.
Surviving family members include his wife, Joy, and his four children: Fred Jr. & Holly Vertucci of Hamburg, PA, Judy & Chuck Guske of West Winfield, Bill & Barbie Vertucci of Manly, Australia, and Angela & Tom Miller of Urbana, OH, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fred is also survived by his a brother, James Vertucci of Kingston, but preceded in death by two brothers: Joseph and Anthony; and seven sisters: Grace Avery, Anna Edick, Rose Edick, Margaret Lasher, Mary Brown, Theresa Oakes and Elizabeth Lyons.
Fred was best known throughout the community as prominent businessman. First, as the owner of the Gulf Service Station on Main Street in Richfield Springs, then along with Joy, operated Vertucci Power Equipment selling and repairing lawn and garden equipment, motorcycles, snowmobiles and most recently golf carts. Fred and Joy retired in 2013. Fred enjoyed motorhome trips, long rides in the countryside, laughter over dinners and watching movies with family and friends. In the late 1970s, Fred formed the VPE motocross team, where several young men got their start in the sport, and many who say that he was a great influence.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 1 to 4 pm on Saturday, November 12 at J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. A memorial service will follow at 4 pm.
