Lynn, MA - Fredrick H. Calef, Jr., age 77, of Lynn, died on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at North Shore Medical Center, Salem Hospital, following a brief illness. He was the loving and devoted husband of Bernice E. (Nelson) Calef, with whom he shared over 28 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, in 1948, he was the son of the late Fredrick H. and the late Florence M. (Fenton) Calef. He was raised and educated in Lynn, attended Lynn Public Schools and graduated from Lynn English High School. Freddy worked as a foreman at J. Stone & Son for many years. He was a great cook and had a "green thumb", always taking care of his yard and tending to his vegetable garden. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed playing basketball and watching the Patriots and Celtics on TV. He loved fishing along the North Shore and trips to Graves Lighthouse on his boat. He also enjoyed trips on the casino boat and to the former Wonderland Dog Track.
In addition to his wife Bernice, Freddy is survived by his son Fredrick Calef, III and his daughter Kimberly Woodard and her husband Russell all of Lynn; his grandchildren, Ava Woodard, Michael Calef and Matthew Vaczy; his siblings, Donald Calef and his wife Maria of South Carolina, Emma Clem and her husband Roy of Lynn, Diane Calef of Lynn, Cheryl Mitchell and her husband James of Lynn, Susan Nelson and her husband William of Lynn, Glen Calef and his wife Jennifer of Lynn and Mark Calef of Lynn. He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, his former wife Virginia Calef and his beloved Husky Nova and German Shepard Rocky. He was predeceased by his daughter Tammy Vaczy, his sister Kathleen Gero, his niece Wendy Elswick and his nephew Glen Calef, Jr.
Service Information: A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026 in the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt. 129), Lynn at 11a.m. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
