Fredrick Leon Jackson was born on March 31, 1938, to the late James Jackson, Sr., and Golden (Greene) Jackson of Osage, West Virginia. He was one of eleven children. Besides his mother and father, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Josephine (Jackson) Jennings, Sarah Jackson, Agnes (Jackson) Johnson-Simmons, Naomi (Jackson) Harris, Charlene (Jackson) Fambro, Geraldine (Jackson) Gibson and four brothers, William "Stoney" Jackson, Ellis Jackson, James Jackson, Jr. and George Jackson and his daughter, Debra Denise Jones.
Fred attended Monongalia High School in Westover, WV, until integration in 1954, when he was transferred to University High School. After two years, Fred dropped out of school and joined the United States Air Force. He was assigned to several bases in Texas. While in Texas, he met and married Fronia Mae Deal. They became parents of three children. The union did not last, and Fred returned to Morgantown, WV, where he reunited with his childhood sweetheart, Emma Lindsay. They married on May 29, 1966.
Having been a member of St. Stephens Baptist Church in Shriver, WV, he then became a member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church in Jerome Park, WV. In February 1973, he was ordained a deacon of the church and a member of the choir. Mt. Herman had several special occasions throughout the years, where Fred, being quite the chef, was usually asked to cook several of the dinners, especially meats like roast beef.
Fred was a "Jack of all Trades", but his passion was in home building and other carpentry. Not only did he design and update his home, but he also built his and his son's beds. He worked with and for several construction companies in Morgantown. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, cooking, and sewing. He was a member of the Mended Hearts Children's Camp.
Fredrick lived quite a life and was loved by all who knew him. His favorite quote was "strangers are friends he hadn't met." He loved to make people laugh and claimed all the neighborhood children as "his own."
He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Emma, and his sons, Lewis Lindsay, Frederick Leon Jackson, Jr., and daughter, Gladys Evette Jackson, eight grandchildren, Frederick Leon, Ill, Fredericka Leona, Daxton, Denisha Latoya, Dennis Ray, Dorshelle, Maryion, and Talea, and nine great-grandchildren. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Friends and family will gather on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the Fred Jenkins Chapel of Prayer from 11 AM until noon. Services will begin at noon, officiated by Rev. Claudette Dale. Following the services, Fred will be laid to rest at the Beverly Hills Cemetery with honors conducted by the Westover VFW Post 9916 and the US Air Force Honor Guard.
