Fredrick C. Smith, age 76, a longtime resident of Tewksbury for 36 years and formerly of Medford, passed away peacefully at Lowell General Hospital on Monday, October 27, 2025, following an extended illness. He was the beloved husband of Janet L. (Gosse)Smith, with whom he shared 51 wonderful years of marriage, celebrating their anniversary on August 3, 2025.
Born in Boston on April 2, 1949, Fred was the son of the late Fred Smith and the late Cora I. (Clifford) (Smith) Tintoni. He was raised in Medford and was a graduate of Medford Vocational High School. In 1967, Fred proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War era.
Fred dedicated many years to his work as a printer and was last employed with the Quad Graphics Company in Woburn. He was a proud member of the Wamesit Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Tewksbury, a former member of the Mount Hermon Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Medford, and a past President of the Square and Compass Club in Medford. He was also a longtime member of the Tewksbury Rod & Gun Club.
Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, and RV camping. He loved movies, music, and military history, and took great pleasure in collecting related memorabilia. He was also an avid collector of Hallmark Christmas ornaments and was often the first in line the day after Christmas to scoop up the discounted ones. Known among family and friends for his vast knowledge, he was a master of trivia and the ultimate "phone-a-friend."
In addition to his devoted wife, Janet, Fred is survived by his loving daughter, Kristin L. Smith, and her partner, Scott T. Lavallee; and by his best buddy, his grandson, Noah S. Smith-Lavallee, all of Plaistow. The oldest of ten children, Fred is also survived by two brothers, three sisters, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 2, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. Funeral services will follow on Monday, November 3, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations in Fred's memory be made to the New England Home for Little Wanderers (www.thehome.org) or to MSPCA–Angell (www.mspca.org)
