Mother Freida Barbara Gordon

Mother Freida Barbara (Ferguson) Gordon, 85, of Peoria, IL transitioned to her heavenly home at 9:16 pm on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at the Loft of Eureka in Eureka, IL.
Freida was born June 1, 1939 in Marshall, MO to Robert Edward and Frankie (Lawrence) Ferguson. She was educated in Peoria Public Schools #150. Freida married the love of her life JP "Buck" Gordon on January 9, 1954. To their union five children were born.
Freida had an exemplary working career as Housing Supervisor at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. In 1994 she retired with over 30 years of service. She was an avid bowler and was a traveling member of USBC and TNBA Bowling leagues. She was a recipient of the prestigious 40 years National Bowling Trophy.
Freida was a former member of Anderson Memorial C.O.G.I.C. She later moved her membership to New Morning Star M.B. Church where she served on the Mother Board, Choir, Calendar Tea, and co-chaired many Women's Day programs and attained the legacy as a Golden Member of the church.
Freida's favorite color was royal blue and her favorite song was "When I Rose This Morning" by Mosie Burks. She absolutely loved her gospel music! Freida grew up in a musical family. Her mother (Frankie) played the piano, her and brother played the guitar while her sisters added the vocals. Their family's singing ministry was blessed to travel extensively to various houses of worship. With a cup of coffee in hand, Freida was a huge fan of various Judge shows. However, travelling, singing and bowling were her ultimate passions.
Mother Freida leaves to cherish her most precious memories her loving and devoted children; Imogene (Jeanie) Simmons, Pamela Kay Gordon and Gwendolyn Renee Johnson and James "Patrick" Gordon all of Peoria, IL; 6 grandchildren, Robert Davis, Carthel (Yvonne) Johnson, Sr., Dionne Gordon, Jamie Johnson, Jimmel Simmons, Sr., and Danielle (James) Harris; 20 greatgrandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren, one of whom was her caregiver and to whom the family wishes to give special thanks, Roshante Gordon; also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends who adored her.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, J.P. "Buck" Gordon; one daughter, Deborah Gordon; two sisters, Mary Richardson, Gloria Harris and a bonus sister, Willie Mae Hopson; two brothers, Robert E. Ferguson, Jr. and Richard Ferguson and a great grandson, Carthel Johnson, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, December 20, 2024 at New Morning Star M.B. Church with a visitation beginning at 10 am. Pastor Cleveland Thomas, Sr. will officiate. Freida will be laid to rest at Parkview Cemetery.
