Fulton Thomas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Whiting's Funeral Home - Williamsburg on Mar. 20, 2024.
A native of York County, Virginia, Fulton J. Thomas was one of four children born to the late Verabell and Haywood Thomas Sr. on September 26, 1937. On Friday, March 15, 2024, Fulton left his earthly home to meet his Heavenly Father and loving wife, Joyce Marie Thomas.
Fulton retired from Newport News Public Schools after more than twenty years of service. As a proficient pianist, he faithfully served at Zion Prospect Baptist Church and New Bethel Baptist Church for over forty years. As a private piano teacher, with over a handful of successfully trained students, his pride and joy and favorite student was his son, Shawn Thomas who followed in his footsteps as a minister of music.
He was a kind, witty, gentle, and intelligent man who loved his family and dedicated his life to raising his son.
His blessed memories will always be cherished by his loving son, Shawn Thomas (Adrianna); brother Willie N. Thomas; nieces and nephews who affectionately called him "Uncle Fult", Deborah Swinton, Orsby S. Thomas Sr. (A. Darlene), Darlene Thomas, Linda Hill, Daryl Thomas (Tiffany), and Byron Thomas; a host of great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
A service to celebrate Mr. Thomas' life will be held at noon on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Zion Prospect Baptist Church. Interment to follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Mr. Fulton may be viewed on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of his service in the church.
