"We can never lose those we love, for we carry them forever in our hearts."
Robert Lee Dobbs peacefully entered eternal rest on Sunday, January 11, 2026. He was born on October 31, 1954, in
Aberdeen, Mississippi, to the late Prentiss and Clara Dobbs. He received Christ as his Lord and Savior while growing up in Mississippi.
"Pops," as he was called, was educated in the Aberdeen City School System. He began serving his Country in October 1976 when he enlisted in the United States Army and served until he was honorably discharged in July 1998 as an E8 Master Sergeant. During his service in the United States Army, he received the Bronze Star, MSM, Arcom, and the Army Medal of Honor. While in the military, he furthered his education and received his Associate Degree from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee, and his BA in Criminology from St. Leo University in St. Leo, Florida.
He shared twenty-six beautiful years of love, happiness, and precious memories with his best friend and soulmate, Jo Dobbs, and sixteen of those years they were united in holy matrimony. If you saw him, you saw her by his side. They shared a bond they both cherished and held near and dear to their hearts.
He enjoyed being out in nature, and you could often find him fishing at any given time of the year. Cooking steaks on the grill for him and Jo brought him joy. He really loved being around family and friends. Travelling and just enjoying vacations were among his favorite pastimes, as were watching Washington Commanders Football games, NBA games, and his black-and-white westerns. He was known for always having a smile on his face and for telling good stories that made you laugh. He had a way of turning someone's bad day into a good day. He was kindhearted and appreciative of the acts of kindness shown to him.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Prentiss and Clara Dobbs; brothers Prentiss Dobbs, Jr. and James Dobbs; sister Dorothy Dobbs; maternal grandparents Robert and Maggie Daniels; mother-in-law Virginia Canady and father-in-law Lacy Nowlin, Sr.
He leaves behind to cherish his fond memories his loving and faithful wife Jo Dobbs; daughters, Laleta Stone (Joseph), Deidra Boyd (Calvin); sons, Sterling Perry III (Crystal), Jamie White (Tondra), and Robert Douglas (Tanea); grandchildren, Millyon, Precious, Saniyah, Malcolm, and Zhyon; brother Billy Dobbs (Bessie); sisters-in-law, Lillian Womack (David), Mamie Robinson (Willie), and Katrina Tucker; brothers-in-law, Lacy Nowlin, Jr. (Marie), Michael Nowlin Sr. (Linda), Ronald Canady (Latasha), Antoine Canady (Lashawn), Barry Nowlin (Connie), and Lawrence Allen (Kay); niece Tawanda Green (Jermaine); nephews, Billy Dobbs Jr. (Kristal) and Christopher Dobbs; his best friend and fishing buddy Gregory Morris (Jeannette); and a host of other loving family and friends.
