G. Eleanore (Barte) Schiro

G. Eleanore (Barte) Schiro, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and lifelong educator, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025. Born on February 9, 1936, in Glendale, California, she was the second daughter of Charles and Anna Barte.
Eleanore earned a B.A. in Elementary Education from Occidental College, Class of 1957, graduating with Phi Beta Kappa honors. She made many life-long friends there.
Following graduation, she married Joseph Ronald Schiro, and together they shared 65 years of love and partnership. Together with Joe, she raised their family-Janet Louise Pinto, Sharon Eleanor Davis, and Edward Charles (Joanna) Schiro-while also committing herself to public service and professional growth. She served as a Girl Scout leader, president of the Oxnard branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), and earned a Master's Degree in Education from CSU Northridge. She also completed her credentials to become a Reading Resource Specialist. Eleanore retired in 1996 from the Hueneme School District in Oxnard, CA after 36 dedicated years of teaching.
In 2000, Eleanore and Joe relocated to Oakmont in Santa Rosa, California, to be closer to their children and grandchildren: David (Emma), Casera, Dominick, Emilie, Benjamin, and Eleanore. Even in retirement, she remained devoted to service and education. She volunteered for 11 years as a docent at the Luther Burbank Home and Gardens and was a proud member of Chapter JO in P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization), where she served as President and chaired the Philanthropy and Scholarship Committees. Active participation in church life was important to both Eleanore and Joe for many decades of their lives. They contributed their time and talents as choir members, lectors, and Eucharistic ministers.
In her later years, Eleanore was most often found among her family. She cherished the simple pleasures in life: her family, her garden, good books, and a box of See's candies. She will be remembered for her grace and her enduring love-for her family, her friends, and her community.
