Gabor Kecskes Obituary

Gabor Kecskes
Born: January 14, 1940 in Hungary
Died: June 22, 2025 in Naperville, IL
Gabor Kecskes
Age 85, passed away unexpectedly Sunday June 22, 2025 at Edwards Hospital, Naperville.
Survived by his one daughter Becky (Gregory) Smith; grandson Matthew (Amanda) Smith; two great grandchildren Callum and Hallie Smith; one granddaughter Gabrielle (Ryan) Bright; one sister Margit Kesckes.
Preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years Marilyn Kecskes-Marchio; one son Michael Kecskes; parents Sandor and Erzsebet Kesckes-Osztroluczki; two brothers Sandor and Jancsi Kecskes; great nephews Louis Meintel and Joshua Radosevich; great niece Lauren Ley.
Born in Békés, Hungary, Gabor came to the United States seeking a new beginning. After arriving, he was taken in by a group at St. Steven's Church and assigned to a kind and generous Priest, Father Adams, who gave him a place to live and helped him find steady work. One of his very first jobs in America was as a baker at the Joliet Donut Company. Their support laid the foundation for the life he would go on to build. In 2001, Gabor and Marilyn had the opportunity to return to his hometown of Békés, reconnecting with his family for the first time since he left in 1956– an emotional and long- awaiting reunion.
Gabor and Marilyn were then married on June 2, 1962 and joyfully celebrated their 60st wedding anniversary together in 2022. Their love was truly one of a kind–a remarkable and enduring love story, and a true inspiration. Together, they raised their family in Joliet, taking great pride in watching it grow through the years.
Gabor found his greatest joy in spending time with his two beautiful great-grandchildren, often sharing special moments with them in his beloved garden. Gardening was one of Gabor's greatest passions; he tended to his quarter-acre plot with care and dedication, proudly growing every plant from seed. He loved sharing the fruits–and vegetables–of his labor with family and friends.
In addition to gardening, Gabor also enjoyed the thrill of gambling. He and Marilyn spent many happy times visiting local casinos and taking memorable family trips to Las Vegas. Whether at home in his garden or out at the slots, Gabor lived life fully and with a deep appreciation for the simple joys and adventures he shared with those he loved most. Gabor was always smiling, even when losing on the slot's.
Gabor was one of the hardest workers you could ever meet and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He dedicated years of his life to Marchio Fence Company and was a proud member of the Local 444 Ironworkers Union, where he led by example, earning the respect of his coworkers through his unwavering dedication and work ethic. His strength, humility, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Gabor was a proud parishioner of St. Jude's Church/Queen of Apostles in Joliet, where he found great solace in attending Mass with Father Michael. A man of strong faith, Gabor carried his beliefs close to his heart and looked forward to reuniting with the love of his life, Marilyn, in heaven.
