Gabriel Anthony Mascarella, 35, of Durham, North Carolina died suddenly on November 14th, 2024.
Born November 8th, 1989 in Baton Rouge, LA, his family moved to NC when he was 8 years old. His love for Louisiana never faltered and was especially present when watching his LSU tigers and New Orleans Saints.
Gabriel had a zest for life. He was vibrant, charismatic, and passionate. All those who knew him often marveled at how talented he was. He never lost touch with his Cajun/Italian roots, which fueled his passion for music and cooking. He was a skilled musician, craftsman, fisherman, gardener, surfer, chef, rock climber and engineer. He loved laughing and joking with his siblings, cousins and friends, cooking a meal to show his love and care and being outside in nature. His most favorite way to pass the time was with his daughter, Juliette. They sang, danced, painted and delighted in each other's company. She loved him to a depth even he could not believe and he was so proud to be her Dad. He was a tender hearted boy, mischievous teenager, cherished partner, and gentle father. His bright light burned out way too soon. We will all mourn the Gabriel we knew and grieve for the versions of him we had yet to meet.
Gabriel is survived by his wife, Alannah Mascarella; his daughter, Juliette Mascarella; his parents, Charles and Rhonda Mascarella of Hillsborough, NC; his sister, Jordyn Mascarella and nephew Hayden Mascarella; his brother Dominic Mascarella and nephew Sebastian Mascarella; his grandmother, Wilma Mascarella, godparents, Wayne & Jeanie Mascarella, and numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lucian Mascarella, Eric Guillaume and Gloria Mitchell.
Planning for his Celebration of Life is underway. Details will be shared by his family once finalized.
