Gabriel Plasencia, cariñosamente conocido como "Memei" por sus seres queridos, falleció en paz en su hogar el 17 de mayo de 2025, a la edad de 92 años. Nacido el 5 de abril de 1933 en Bonao, República Dominicana, Gabriel vivió una vida llena de amor, bondad y dedicación a su familia.
Como uno de cinco hijos de Ramón Plasencia y Filomena Rosario De Plasencia, Gabriel creció con fuertes valores familiares que más tarde inculcaría en sus propios hijos. Se casó con Emma Polanco Plasencia, y tuvo 14 hijos, 25 nietos y 9 bisnietos. Gabriel emigró a la ciudad de Nueva York en 1988 en busca de mejores oportunidades, y Gabriel residió en Inwood y Washington Heights, Manhattan.
A lo largo de su vida, Gabriel demostró una notable paciencia, fuerza, resiliencia, ternura y compasión. Fue un ser humano ejemplar que tocó las vidas de todos los que conoció con su bondad. Gabriel Plasencia, affectionately known as "Memei" to his loved ones, passed away peacefully at his home on May 17, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on April 5, 1933, in Bonao, Dominican Republic, Gabriel lived a life filled with love, kindness, and dedication to his family.
As one of five children to Ramon Plasencia and Filomena Rosario De Plasencia, Gabriel grew up with strong family values that he would later instill in his own children. He married Emma Polanco Plasencia, and had 14 children, 25 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. He migrated to New York City in 1988 in search of better opportunities, and Gabriel resided in Inwood and Washington Heights, Manhattan.
Throughout his life, Gabriel demonstrated remarkable patience, strength, resilience, gentleness, and compassion. He was an exemplary human being who touched the lives of everyone he met with his kindness. His love and dedication to his family were unwavering, and he worked tirelessly to instill core values and principles in his children and grandchildren. Gabriel's humility and approach to life shaped the lives of those around him, and his legacy will continue to guide future generations.
Gabriel's passions included playing dominoes, playing the guitar, telling stories, composing and singing his own songs, and cheering for the Mets. He expressed daily gratitude for his life and loved ones, and his joy revolved around spending time with his family. His love and guidance inspired his family to be their best selves, and his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched.
Although Gabriel is no longer with us physically, his impact will be deeply felt for years to come. His family will miss him dearly, but they will continue to celebrate his life and legacy. As they move forward on their own journey, they will hold onto the values and principles he instilled in them, and they will strive to make him proud. Gabriel may be gone, but his love, kindness, and compassion will never be forgotten. His family will remember and love him forever, and his legacy will live on in their hearts.
The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday May 21, from 4-8 PM, his funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday May 22, 2025 at Good shepherd RC Church 10:00am. Followed by burial at The Cedar Hill Cemetery 5468 Rte 9W, Newburgh, NY 12550.
