Gabriel “Eddy” Roybal, age 81, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, entered eternal rest on September 27, 2025.

Eddy was born on June 24, 1944 (El Veinticuatro de Junio) to Demetrio and Dora Roybal. He later moved to Long Beach, California, and graduated from Lynwood High School. On a beautiful day at The Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Eddy married the love of his life, Corine Varela, and together they shared sixty-one years of marriage. They raised a loving family and built countless cherished memories.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Demetrio and Dora Roybal; his in-laws, Albino and Eriselda Varela; and his siblings Katie Marino and Rudy and Milton Roybal.

Eddy is survived by his devoted wife, Corine Roybal; his children, Allen and Glenda; special godchildren Leah, Craig, Lukas, Savannah, and Anastasia; sister, Agnes Varela; sisters-in-law, Josie Roybal, Dorothy Armijo (Tony), and Balbina Armijo; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Eddy’s unconditional love for his family and friends was the foundation of his life.

Throughout his career, Eddy worked as a licensed insurance adjuster. A talented musician, he sang and played both guitar and bass, directing and participating in choirs at multiple Catholic churches, eventually producing a Traditional Spanish Hymns CD in 2019. He also performed at charitable events, with various music bands, and at the Rio Rancho Meadowlark Senior Center.

Eddy had many interests, including sports, especially boxing, and a lifelong love of hot rods. He enjoyed building muscle cars and attending and participating in car shows. Known for his humor and lighthearted spirit, he brought joy and laughter to those around him, even during his time of illness. He was a devoted Catholic, active in his church community, always giving of his time and talents with grace and humility.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to special friends Andrew and Margaret Mora, Joe and Jenny Padilla, Eddie Rougemont, Candi Lopez, Ray Ray Romero, Monte Higgins, the members of the Meadowlark Senior Center, and fellow choir members, for their friendship and support.

Eddy’s unconditional love, music, and joyful spirit will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends. As Eddy would often say, “Via Con Dios.”

Services will be held on a later date.
