Gabriella Katherine Baranyai, 65, of Norfolk, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025. Born on September 25, 1959, in Waltham, Massachusetts, Gabriella was the beloved daughter of the late Eva G. Berenyi and Ferenc Baranyai. Known for her vibrant personality, quick wit, and big heart, Gabriella brought light and laughter to everyone who had the joy of knowing her. A proud and hardworking woman, Gabriella wore many hats throughout her life. She was well known in the community as "Gabby the Cabby" during her years as a cab driver, a job she loved for the connection it gave her to people and their stories. In 2002, she opened Bobbie B's Deli, which she owned and managed for 10 years. Gabriella poured her energy and love into the deli, creating a warm, welcoming space for friends, neighbors, and strangers alike. Outside of work, Gabriella found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved the ocean and could often be found soaking up the serenity of the beach. Gardening brought her peace and purpose-she had a gift for growing beauty and sharing it with others. Gabriella is survived by her devoted brothers, Frank Baranyai and Charles Baranyai; her beloved nephew, Jeremey Baranyai, and his wife Christen; her cherished great-nieces and nephew, Eva, Vivian, and Ethan; her step-daughter, Jennifer Skahill; and her loyal canine companions, Missy and Charly, who were constant sources of comfort and joy. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Eva and Ferenc Baranyai, whose memory she carried close to her heart. At this time, no services are planned, though a gathering to honor Gabriella's life may be held at a later date. Gabriella will be remembered for her strength, compassion, and the unmistakable spark that made her unforgettable. Her legacy of love and laughter lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. Cremation and Funeral Services of Tidewater is handling the arrangements.
