Gafford Alderson, 86, of Terry, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at his home at Plain View Senior Care in Richland. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Friday and 10-11 am on Saturday at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Funeral services are 11 am Saturday at the funeral home with burial following the service at Springridge UMC Cemetery.
A lifelong resident of the Wynndale area, Mr. Alderson was a graduate of Byram High School, class of 1956. He also served our country, as a member of the United States National Guard.
Mr. Alderson was a member and deacon of Wynndale Presbyterian Church and loved the Lord. He was also a legend in the lumber sales industry and retired from Frierson Bailey Lumber Company. When not working, he enjoyed his early morning coffee at Waffle House and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 52 years, Mildred Alderson; his parents, Azlie and James D. Alderson; and sister, Virginia Hamilton.
He is survived by his children: Andrew Waites (Marcia) of Hattiesburg, Clay Alderson (Kim) of Meridian, Jana Watkins (Lyndal) of Richland, Kim Ward (Shawn) of Terry, and Amber Schreiner (Bart) of Madison; 18 grandchildren, Joseph, Axton, Emily, Bailey, Tyler, Wendy, Ryan, Kaisey, Haven, Jasmin, Jayla, Thomas, Sela, Ava, Beckley, Scott, Russ, and Blake; and 15 great-grandchildren.
