Peggy Goodwin Obituary

Visit the Chancellor Funeral Home - Byram website to view the full obituary.

Peggy D. Goodwin, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, was born on June 27, 1954, in the heart of Columbus, Mississippi. She departed this world on August 29, 2025, in Byram, Mississippi, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.

Peggy was a remarkable woman whose life was characterized by her loving spirit and nurturing nature. She cherished her role as a devoted wife to her husband, Billy D. Goodwin, and took great pride in raising their three children: Shannon (Greg) Harris, Jennifer Butler, and Shane (Megan) Goodwin. Her family was her joy, and she poured her heart into every moment spent with them. Peggy especially adored her grandchildren—Taylor Harris, Michael Harris, Olivia Butler, and Bryce Goodwin—who brought immeasurable happiness into her life. Her laughter and warmth will forever echo in the memories they hold.

Those who were fortunate enough to know Peggy could often find her indulging in life’s simple pleasures. She had a particular fondness for shopping—especially at Walmart and Goodwill—and her good-hearted spirit was truly disheartened when Walmart began closing earlier due to the pandemic. She also loved a good game night, frequently playing board and card games like Clue, Yahtzee, Sequence, Phase 10, and a variety of card games with family and friends. These moments were filled with joy, laughter, and often, a little friendly competition.

In her quieter moments, Peggy enjoyed watching "On Patrol: Live Cops", a reflection of her curiosity and interest in the world around her. She also found comfort and delight in some of her favorite foods, particularly banana and mayonnaise sandwiches and Krystal Burgers, which brought her a simple joy that only those closest to her truly understood.

Peggy loved staying at home, supporting her husband while managing to keep him in line with her signature wit and grace. She created a warm, welcoming environment where everyone felt loved and accepted. Her legacy is one of joy, loyalty, and boundless love—a beautiful spirit who brightened every life she touched.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents—father, Elie Hugh Jordan, and mother, Dorris Jordan—as well as her cherished sister, Gail Nelson. They now welcome her home with open arms.

The life of Peggy D. Goodwin will be celebrated during visitation on September 2, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM, both held at Chancellor Funeral Home Byram Location in Byram, MS. A graveside service will take place at Lakewood Memorial Park South in Jackson, MS, at 2:15 PM.

While Peggy may have left this earthly realm, her legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family will continue to inspire and guide her loved ones. Her spirit remains ever-present in their lives, a beacon of warmth and kindness that will never fade.
