Joyce Elizabeth Edwards, 91, a beloved, wife, mother, memaw, and sister, was born on May 21, 1934, in the heart of Vicksburg, Mississippi, to the parents of Tillman Reuben Collins, and Delia Elizabeth Collins. She went to be with our Lord on September 1, 2025, at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi, leaving behind an indelible mark on the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
Joyce was a remarkable woman whose life was characterized by her loving spirit, nurturing nature, and sacrifices to put others before herself. She cherished her roles as a devoted wife to her late husband, Clorus C. Edwards, mother to Julie (Bill) Waltman, and raising her grandchildren: Cassie Davis, Russ Davis, and great grandson, Christian (Emily) Davis. Her family was her prized possession, and she poured her heart into each of them. In Joyce’s later years, she especially adored time spent with her great, great grandson, Claiborne “Layne” Davis, who brought immeasurable happiness and excitement into her life. Aside from her family, Joyce took great pride in her work as office manager for oral surgeon Dr. Montgomery where she retired and later spent 17 years as a pre-Kindergarten instructor at Hillcrest Christian School, where she left a lasting impact on countless children and coworkers.
Those fortunate enough to know Mrs. Joyce knew they could find her indulging in life’s simple pleasures, like a good cold Diet Dr. Pepper, eating Mexican food, all you can eat fish at Jerry’s fish house, cooking large meals for her family, or in her quieter moments, a daily devotional phone call with her sister Betty.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Bill) Waltman, two grandchildren, Cassie Davis and Russ Davis, one great grandson, Christian (Emily) Davis, great, great grandson Layne Davis, and two sisters, Betty (Billy) Bradshaw of Lake Jackson, Texas, and Patricia (David) Warren of Mobile, Alabama.
