Gail Dorothy Comer, 81, of Greenville, South Carolina peacefully passed away May 26, 2024, ending her prolonged battle with cancer.

Born Gail Dorothy Chandler at French Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 6, 1942, to Adele Dorothy Dargis and Robert James Chandler, she lived in Louisiana, New Jersey, Georgia, 19 wonderful years in Connestee Falls, Brevard, Transylvania County, NC and, for the last four years at Rolling Green Village in Greenville County, SC.

Gail’s passion in life was horticulture, especially herbs. She was happiest when her hands were in the soil! For over 30 years she was an active member of the Herb Society of America and a Master Gardener in both Atlanta, GA and Transylvania County, NC. Her outgoing and giving nature blessed her with many loving friends, often fellow gardeners.  Gail truly never met a stranger.

She was predeceased by her mother Adele Dorothy Dargis Christophersen, beloved step-father Carl Arnold Christophersen, and brother Carl N. Christophersen. Gail often lovingly credited her stepfather Carl and Aunt Agnes Christophersen Dempster for her love of gardening.

Gail is survived by her husband of 32 years and partner in life for 38 years, Edward Irby Comer, three daughters Alicia Dawn Weltner (Philip) of Atlanta, GA, Paige Debra Guns (Brian) of Mint Hill, NC and Alene Denis Joiner (Harry) of Milton, GA, all née Schuster and step-son Edward Alexander Comer of Longmont, CO, eleven grand-children and one great-grand daughter, niece Christiana Christophersen and nephew Carl Norman Christophersen, Jr. both of Hawley, PA, Gail is also survived by her former husband Allan D. Schuster, father of her daughters.
