Gail Ann Davis

Gail Ann Davis, 89, of Marshalltown, quietly passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at the Iowa River Hospice Home, surrounded by her sister and children.

Funeral services for Gail will be held on Friday, August 29, at Hope United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the service following at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to either the Iowa River Hospice Home or Hope United Methodist Church. Gail Sells came into this world on the cold morning of January 12, 1936 at the family home of Rex and Fern Sells in rural Toledo. Due to a major blizzard, she arrived a day before the doctor was able to get there by horse.

Gail was the big sister to four siblings and took pride in helping with chores on the farm. She attended a country school and was the only student in her class through eighth grade. She graduated from Toledo High School in 1953.

When the boy who grew up a half mile from her returned home from serving in the Korean War, love blossomed. On February 10, 1957, Lowell and Gail married in Traer and were inseparable from that moment on. God blessed them with three children and her life revolved around raising, supporting and loving them. They lived south of Green Mountain for forty-five years until Lowell's passing. She spent the last fourteen years of her life at Village Co-op in Marshalltown, making many new friends and memories.

Gail was employed at Security Savings Bank in Customer Service for over thirty years. Customers loved her warm and welcoming presence. She retired in April of 1996.

Faith was a very important part of Gail's life, and she spent many hours volunteering in various capacities. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo for many years before moving to Marshalltown and joining Hope United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and American Legion Auxiliary.

Gail was an accomplished seamstress. She designed and sewed beautiful quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed camping and traveling. Many fond family memories were made in their excursions out West and camping trips. She also loved doing puzzles and crosswords. She was a fantastic cook. If you've not had her potato salad, spaghetti, homemade dinner rolls or raspberry cream pie, you are really missing out.

Above everything else, Gail was a devout Christian and loved spending time with her family and friends. Nothing put a sparkle in her eye and a smile on her face more than time with her "grands" and "greats".

Gail is survived by her three children: Renee (Noel) Vogt of Melbourne, Craig Davis of Cedar Rapids and Ryan (Jill) Davis of Pella. Five beloved grandchildren: Sierra (Brandon) Suarez, O.D. of Lewisville, Texas, Amanda (Lior) Peer of Mesa, Arizona, Madison (Bryce) Johnson of Waukee, Sam (Eylul) Davis of Iowa City and Adam (Lauren McClatchey) Davis of Charleston, South Carolina. She is also survived by five beautiful great-grandchildren: Gavin and Autumn Suarez, Miller Peer, Jayde and Rowan Johnson; sister: Kay Purvis, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Gail is preceded in death by her husband: Lowell; parents: Rex and Fern; sisters: Sue Mathes and Karen Smith; brother: Ray Sells; father and mother-in-law: Harold and Esther Davis; sisters-in-law: Linda Sells and Deloris Halverson; brothers-in-law: Paul Purvis, Kenny Smith and Duane Halverson and nephews: Dean Halverson and Marvin Sells.
