Gail A. (Hurley) Gruytch passed away on Tuesday, October 7th at the age of 84 after a battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Stephen Gruytch with whom she shared 61 years of marriage.
Gail was born in Cranford, New Jersey on January 31, 1941, and was the daughter of the late Melvin and Blanche Hurley of Toms River, New Jersey. Gail graduated from high school in Clark, New Jersey and later married Steve in Garwood, New Jersey in 1964. Gail and Steve moved to Massachusetts in 1972, eventually settling in Townsend where they lived happily for 25 years. Gail graduated suma cum laude in English Literature from Fitchburg State College. She taught English at Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua, New Hampshire where she was devoted to her students and to Shakespeare. Gail and Steve lived their retirement years in Tyngsboro.
Gail loved playing bridge with "the Bridgette's" in Townsend, traveling internationally especially to London, and cooking elaborate holiday dinners for her family and friends. She also enjoyed hosting elegant dinner parties, tending to her extensive flower garden and loved reading and talking about books.
In addition to her loving husband, Gail leaves her daughter Jennifer Flagg and her grandsons Joe and Jacob of Winchester, who she loved with all her heart. She also leaves her loving sister Karin Thompson of Stewartsville, New Jersey, extended family Thaisa and Ash Moursi of Stoneham, as well as many dear friends.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, October 11th from 2 pm – 4 pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, at 24 Worthen St., in Chelmsford. Her funeral service and interment will be held privately.
