In Loving Memory
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Gail Willenbrok Luebs on October 22, 2025, at Chantilly Heights Assisted Living in Chantilly, Virginia, at the age of 88. Gail was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, cherishing time with her family above all else.
Born on May 26, 1937, in New York, Gail grew up with her parents, John Henry Willenbrok and Lucile Hopkins Willenbrok, alongside her older sister, Joan Leonard. She graduated from Scarsdale High School in 1955 before attending Bradford Junior College for two years. Gail then transferred to Miami University (Ohio), where she joined Chi Omega sorority and earned a bachelor's degree in English in 1959. After graduation, she moved to San Francisco to live with two girlfriends, working as a secretary at Great-West Life Assurance Co. It was in California that she met the love of her life, Donald (Don) Luebs, who had moved there from Michigan for work. Gail and Don were married on November 26, 1960, and later relocated back to the East Coast, where they raised three children in a beautiful home in Reston, Virginia.
Gail and Don shared a deep love of travel, exploring many exotic destinations across six continents. They never missed an opportunity to go scuba diving or snorkeling, embracing the beauty of the underwater world. Despite their adventurous spirit, they always enjoyed returning home to their family. Gail also enjoyed playing tennis regularly for nearly four decades.
Gail is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Don, and her parents, John and Lucile (Hopkins) Willenbrok. She is survived by her children Karen Wellford, Heidi Rackoski (Jack), and Kurt Luebs (Laurie); her grandchildren Russell Gartman (Betsy), Dale Gartman, Grace Gartman, John Rackoski, Tommy Rackoski (Michelle), Sarah Rackoski, Hannah Luebs, Caroline Luebs, Nicholas Luebs: her great granddaughters Chloe and Millie Gartman; her sister, Joan Leonard; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Gail's memory will forever be cherished by her family and friends, who will remember her for her warmth, love of life, and unwavering dedication to those she held dear.
A private memorial service will be held for family and close friends.
Please share pictures and memories on her tribute wall.
