Virginia A. Luebs of Wood River, NE died on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Heritage Assisted Living Community surrounded by family. A private graveside service will take place. A Celebration of Life will take place at Balz Banquet and Reception Hall, 213 N Sycamore St. Grand Island, NE, on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 4 to 7 PM.
Virginia was born on January 22, 1927, in Shelton, NE to Clarence and Ethel Pope. She grew up in the Shelton area, graduated from Shelton High School and the Grand Island School of Beauty. She was united in marriage to Elton W. Luebs on August 28, 1947, in Grand Island, after which the couple lived in Lincoln, Grand Island and eventually Wood River. Virigina enjoyed gardening, golfing, oil painting, baking, ten-point pitch, setting a holiday table and loving her family. She was also the Wood River Foundation calligrapher for 35 years.
Virigina is survived by her children Ellen (Docker) Hartfield, Gary Luebs and Kent (Mona) Luebs; grandchildren: Ahna Luebs, Erin (Mike) Reynolds, Ian (Meeghan) Hartfield, Hannah (Matt) Gloe and Marin (Matt Borozan) Hartfield; and great-grandchildren: Alexa and Ella Grace Hartfield, Reese and Brynn Reynolds, and Emma and Danile Gloe; and sister, Loma Campbell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sister and one brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wood River Foundation. Apfel Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements, online condolences may be left at www.apfelfuneralhome.com.
