Gail Dee Queeney Sharp, 87, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Brookdale in Staunton.

She was born on July 11, 1938, in Gloversville, New York to the late Edwin Lawrence, Sr. and Marion Lorraine Sykes Queeney.

Gail was a devoted volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, where she formed a lasting friendship with an eight-year-old girl. That bond lasted for over fifty years. While living in Florida, Gail also worked with Care Net, offering support and compassion to women facing unplanned pregnancies and considering abortion.

A member of Tabernacle Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro, Gail was deeply involved in her church community.

She had many passions. Gail loved gardening, especially planting flowers, and took great pride in keeping her garden beautiful. She enjoyed scrapbooking and had a unique love for collecting fossils. She even taught a homeschool class on fossils, sharing her excitement for nature and history with young learners.

Gail also spent years researching her Irish family roots, creating a rich family history that will be treasured for generations.

She is survived by her husband, Richard James Sharp; her son, Shawn Samperi; her stepdaughters, Lisa Foss and Linda Sharp; her sister, Jill Queeney McKinney; and her grandchildren, Alisa Foss and Joseph and Nicholas Samperi.

She is preceded in death by her stepson, Richard Kevin Sharp; and her brother, Garth Queeney.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday August 2, 2025, at the Tabernacle Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro.
