Gail Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown Funeral Home - Liberty on Dec. 13, 2025.
Gail Smith departed this life on Thursday December 11, 2025 at her home. She was a fierce lady who touched so many lives, affectionately known as "Momma and MawMaw." She was both the toughest and most loving woman any of us ever knew.

Gail cherished spending time with the love of her life, Barney Ray Smith Jr. The two shared a devoted marriage of 45 years, built on love and loyalty.

Gail was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 17th, 1954 to Keith Hamilton and Dorothy Karr. She graduated from Woodlawn High School and went on to serve with distinction in the Baton Rouge Police Department, where she rose to the rank of Lieutenant. It was there that she met Barney Ray. After her retirement, Gail and Barney moved to Mississippi, where they made their forever home.

Gail was a proud and devoted mother to two daughters: Tammy Rider (husband Lee) and Trish Richards (husband Keith). She was also a loving grandmother to five grandchildren: Christian, Connor, Ciera, Liam, and Rory.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents, Keith Hamilton and Dorothy Karr.

A graveside service for close friends and family will be held on Sunday, December 14, at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Bro. Mike Morris.

Pallbearers are Robert Taylor, Paul Corey, Lee Rider, Keith Richards, Christian Rider, and Connor Rider.

Gail was my boss when I worked in Criminal Records in Police Dept. God be with her family at a time like this. She was good to me. God Bless all of you!
