Gail (Gresko) Wick, of Yarmouth, Maine, formerly a long-time Acton resident, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2024 at The Mooring on Foreside in Cumberland Foreside, Maine. She was 78 and had been married to her devoted husband, David, for 53 years.
Gail was born in Saint Mary's, Pennsylvania and spent her childhood in White Plains, New York. She was the daughter of the late John and Aurelia (Dassing) Gresko. Gail is survived by, in addition to her husband, David, her two sons and six grandchildren. Her son Andy Wick and his wife Pam, live in Yarmouth, Maine with their son Peter and daughter Rachel. Her son Ryan and his wife Nikki, live in Edwards, Colorado, with their sons Connor, Aidan, Owen, and Luc. Gail (Nana) adored her grandchildren and loved going to see them in Maine, Switzerland where Ryan and his family lived for ten years, and Colorado.
Gail was a dedicated teacher from her first class in 1967 in Monroeville, Pennsylvania until her retirement in 2005 after teaching kindergarten and first grade for many years at Gates School in Acton. She loved the children and watching each class grow and move on. She was best known for her Halloween clown costume and her love of the book "Make way for Ducklings." She would regularly take her classes to Boston to follow the path the ducklings took in the book. Every one of her students started their academic life with a Penn State pencil. Even after retirement, she continued her love for teaching, spending countless hours reading to her grandchildren and, later, teaching each of them to read on their own.
Gail got her education degree from Penn State (Her father's alma mater) and she and future husband, David met there and married several years later. For years she was a dedicated member of the Boston chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association and enthusiastically represented Penn State at many college fairs. She loved holding the "Send Off Picnic" at her home every August for the freshmen heading off to Penn State. She was very happy to see both sons graduate from Penn State University.
She loved her home and life in Acton. She attended many sporting events over the years with her sons. She was an enthusiastic member of the Acton Garden Club and could often be seen working at Meeting House Hill or watering plants around Acton. She loved walking at Nara Park and on the Rail Trail.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Friday, January 19th from 4:00-6:00PM in the Acton Funeral Home 470 Massachusetts Avenue (Rte. 111) Acton. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 20th at 10:00am in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church 89 Arlington Street, Acton.
We would like to express our gratitude for the loving care given to Gail by the staff at the Mooring on Foreside. Their consideration and thoughtfulness helped Gail and her family through a difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (https://www.alz.org/).

I am so sorry to hear of Gail's passing. She was a remarkable first grade teacher to all 3 of my children. And even had my son for a second year of first grade. I will always remember her as a gifted teacher!
