Gale D. Devereaux
Sanford, Michigan
Gale D. Devereaux, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on January 26, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on January 12, 1933, in Chesaning, Michigan, to the late Lorriane (Spike) and Zelma (King) Devereaux, Gale's life was a testament to his enduring strength, love, and generosity.
Gale was known for his unwavering dedication to his family. He married his beloved wife, Janice Bigelow, in St. Charles on June 5, 1954, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter. Their union was blessed with four children: Darla (Kim) Wilson, Karmela (Kent) Russell, Darin Devereaux, and the late Kevin Devereaux. Gale's legacy continued to flourish through his adoring grandchildren: Kayla (John) Block, Brandon (Courtney) Wilson, Jenna (Zack) Soulliere, Kelsey (Nathan) Goddard, Keegan (Kaylee) Russell, Karson (Catherine) Russell, Konner (Hailey) Russell, Tori Mordy, Devin Devereaux, William Devereaux, Chad Sehike, and Eric Sehike. Also, several great grandchildren.
After graduating from high school, Gale proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. His service was a period of his life that shaped his character and instilled in him a sense of duty and resilience. Following his military service, Gale embarked on a career at Saginaw G M Plant 5, where he dedicated many years before retiring. His colleagues knew him as a hardworking and reliable man who could always be counted on.
Gale's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace and joy in fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling. He was equally at home in his garage, where he could often be found tinkering and "garage sale ling" for the special treasure. Camping and traveling were also among his favorite pursuits, as they allowed him to explore new places and create lasting memories with his family. Gale's ability to fix anything earned him the affectionate title of "Mr. Fix It," and his knack for giving nicknames to everything and everyone brought smiles to many faces.
Above all, Gale was a man of faith who loved the Lord Jesus with a tender heart. His loving and generous spirit was evident to all who knew him. He was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need, and his handy skills often came to the rescue of friends and neighbors.
Gale's life was a beautiful example of kindness, compassion, and the power of a life well-lived. His presence will be profoundly missed, but the impact of his love and the memories he created will continue to be felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
In honor of Gale's remarkable life, his family will gather in remembrance and will hold close the values he taught through his example: love deeply, give generously, and make the most of every moment. This will be held later with military honors.
