Gale Edward Hopkins, age 88 of Arthur, died at 8:30 am Monday, October 6, 2025 at the Eberhardt Village in Arthur.

Gale was born March 3, 1937 at Ridge Farm, Illinois the son of James Andrew and Phebe May Robinson Hopkins. He was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Harshbarger September 21, 1958. Mary preceded him in death on January 8, 2010.

Gale was a graduate of Arcola Twp High School Class of 1955. He attended Electronics School in St. Louis for two years after that. He worked for John Deere Equipment from 1962-1998. Gale was a member of the Vine Street Christian Church, the Arthur Sportsman's Club, and a member of the Arthur Fire Department for 25 years.

He is survived by his four sons: Duane (Connie) of Neoga, Steve of Arcola and David (Aura) and Troy both of Arthur. Also surviving are his brother, Joe Hopkins of Humboldt and special friend, Fari Shafer; eight grandchildren: Mike (Kimberly) Hopkins of Arthur; Beth (Randy ) Jerrell, of Fairview, OK; Zachary (Jacquie) Hopkins of Madison, Alabama and Adam (Stephanny) Hopkins of Prattville, Alabama; Andy (Jessica) Hopkins of Bethany; AnneMarie (Blake) Clarke of Robinson; Rosemarie (Justin) Verdyne of Mattoon; and Steven (Rebecca) Hopkins of Nashville, TN;14 great grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Beverly Harshbarger of Williamsburg, VA. Gale was preceded by his wife, Mary and parents.

Funeral services will be at Noon Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Penn Station in Arthur with Pastor Glen Rhodes officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00am until time of the services. Burial will follow the funeral services at the Humboldt Twp. Cemetery. Shrader Funeral Home, Arthur, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the Arthur Fire and Ambulance department.
