Galen Elmer Reichart, age 89, went to be with the Lord on August 28, 2025. He was born on August 12, 1936 to Elmer and Veryl Reichart at the family homestead farmhouse built by his grandfather north of
Valley Falls, Kansas in the Coal Creek Community.
He attended the No.2 Country School House in rural Valley Falls during his childhood and graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1955. He helped his father farm and attended Mechanic school in Kansas City. He served in the Army Reserves from 1958 to 1964.
Galen was united in marriage to Joan Radina on August 30, 1959. They were blessed with six children. They resided in the cities of Topeka, Valley Falls and Tonganoxie, Kansas. They were married for nearly 64 years until the death of his beloved wife on July 28, 2023.
He was a hard worker and a great provider for his family. He took over the family farm after his father passed away in 1963. He retired from farming in 1982. Additionally, he worked for Good Year Tire and Rubber Company in Topeka for 36 years, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the Coal Creek, Valley Falls and Tonganoxie United Methodist Churches, Masonic Lodge # 21, Valley Falls Lions and a founding member of Tonganoxie Lions Clubs.
Galen served as President and Vice President, Chairman of the Lions State Band Committee and Zone Chairman amongst numerous other projects during his time as a Lion. He loved music and had a wonderful singing voice. He sang numerous solos, duets and ensembles in church as well as in the church choirs. He played the Baritone in High School and later taught himself how to play the Harmonica.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Joan; son, Thomas; parents, Elmer and Veryl; sister, Marlene; niece, Pamela; nephew, Duane; granddaughter, Ashley; brother-in-law, James; and sister-in-law, Lillian.
He is survived by his daughters, Teresa (Steve) Vernon, Danette and Margaret Reichart all of Tonganoxie, KS; sons, William Reichart of Forrest City, Arkansas and James (Prince) Reichart of Houston, TX; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Reichart of Topeka, KS; brother, Frank Reichart of Overland Park, KS; and sister, Lois Beames of Topeka, KS; grandchildren, Dustin (Michelle) Reichart, Christie (Aaron) Mull, Brady (Lynnette) Keo-Reichart, Steven (Michelle) Lundberg, Richard Vernon, Shannon (JD) Nighswonger; 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 4, 2025 at the Mercer Funeral Home in
Valley Falls, KS with the visitation one hour prior to the service at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow in the Valley Falls Cemetery. Memorial donations will be made to the Valley Falls Lions Club or to the Tonganoxie Lions Club.
