Garland Thomas Reavis (Tommy) went home to be with the Lord on January 9, 2024 following a brief
illness. Tommy was born to James and Geneva Reavis on February 4, 1952 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
He served as a Military Policeman in the Army where he was stationed in Germany and Columbia, South
Carolina.
After being discharged from the military, he began a career in sales with various companies. Tommy
loved children. Along with his wife he served more than 40 years as a Children’s Pastor. They spent most
of their ministry at the Praising Place Church. In 2013 Tommy received The Shepherd’s Cup, the highest
honor given to a Children’s Minister by the Church of God. One of the greatest joys of their ministry was
to see many of their students follow their example by going into ministries of their own.
Tommy is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Paulette Chappell. He is survived by his loving
wife of 51 years Katie, one son, Jeremy (Nicole), one sister, Wanda (Phillip), brother-in-law Thomas
Jones (Valerie), one grandchild, Kathryn and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center ICU staff. Especially Dr. Zachary Anderson
and nurse Cassie Smith.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at The Praising Place Church at 12:00
p.m. with visitation at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, interment will be held at Forest Lawn West
Cemetery at 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested remembrances be made in Tommy’s honor to The Church of
God Children’s Home of North Carolina. To give go to cogch.org
