Mr. Garner Roosevelt Jarrell, Sr., age 91 of Mount Airy, passed away on Sunday morning, March 24, 2024, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Jarrell was born on February 26, 1933, in Surry County to the late Ellard Grady and Mary Vernon Jarrell. Garner proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served for over 30 years. Garner was a member of Renfro Masonic Lodge # 691 AF&AM, where he continued serving his community and the orphanage. He was a well-known cattle farmer and was always willing to serve. Garner was a loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Surviving is his wife of 32 years, Linda D. Jarrell; a daughter, Mary Ellen Jarrell Bowman; a son and daughter-in-law, Garner “Nick” Roosevelt Jarrell, Jr. and Debbie; stepson, Robert Marion; six grandchildren, Josh Galyean and Marla, Amy Jarrell Faile and Craig, Scott Jarrell and Shawna, Patrick Jarrell and Marlana, Kip Galyean and Sally, Montana Galyean; fifteen great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jarrell was preceded in death by four sisters, Betty Jarrell Schuyler, Vera Jarrell Park, Julie Jarrell Jones, Becky Jarrell Swift; and four brothers, Ellis Jarrell, Daniel Jarrell, Ellard Vernon “Tom” Jarrell, and Allen Jarrell. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Mount Airy with Reverend Bill Perkins officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors conducted by VFW Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 Pilot Mountain as well as Masonic Rites conducted by Renfro Lodge #691 AF&AM. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Oak Grove Baptist Church from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donation may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 272 Oak Grove Church Road, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030 or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy have been entrusted with the arrangements.
