Garnie E. Doll, 93, took Jesus's hand on Monday, March 2, 2026 at 11 am at the Brethren Home at Cross Keys Village in New Oxford. Garnie Elaine Burnett was born the daughter of Harrison and Frankie Burnett on June 14, 1932 in Betsy Layne, Kentucky. After the death of her father, Harrison, the family moved to a farm in Marietta, South Carolina. Garnie spoke many times of all the fun she had growing up with her 12 brothers and sisters. Garnie moved to Pennsylvania at the age of 17 with her mother and sister to find work. She met the love of her life and future husband, Martin L. Doll, Sr. while roller skating at Forrest Park in Hanover.
Garnie graduated from Thompson Business Institute in York, Pennsylvania and worked as an office manager/book keeper at various companies throughout her career. Garnie and Martin traveled to South Carolina for summer vacations with their three children and were active in church duties and activities at Oak View Baptist Church, Temple Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church of Hanover. Garnie and Martin enjoyed spending time with each other and their family. They were married nearly 62 years until Martin's death in 2012. Garnie enjoyed serving as a Sunday school teacher for many years and conducting Bible studies. Garnie's life was guided by her strong faith and her expertise of the bible and its teachings. She enjoyed playing the piano and the organ, and loved singing gospel hymns. She also enjoyed flowers and gardening outdoors, as well as loving to shop. Garnie always took great care in dressing with style and class, and was not to be outdone on any shopping excursion.
Garnie lived in their house that she loved until March 2022 when she moved to the Brethren Home, personal care unit, where she wanted to live with people surrounding her. She later moved to the Brethren Home's Brookside Memory Care Unit in August 2025.
She was preceded in death by her husband Martin L. Doll, Sr. in 2012 and her daughter, Lorraine Y. Runion in 2021. She is survived by a son, Martin L. Doll, Jr. and his partner, Karen, of Middletown, Delaware, and her daughter, Kathy A. Betzel and her husband, Leslie of Jefferson, Pennsylvania; 6 grandchildren, Angela Edris, Jacquie Patrick, Benjamin Runion, Jessica Runion, Rainie Werner and Sean Doll; 8 great-grandchildren, Shane Fishel, Sienna Perez, Hailey, Sadie, Madeline, Cora, Aria Werner and Joanna Doll; and a great-great-granddaughter, Paityn Fishel. She was predeceased by her parents, Frankie and Harrison and 12 siblings, George, Bertha, Ray, Clarence, Earl, Martha, Robert, Junior, Ratha, Bernice, John an Huey.
A funeral service will be held for Garnie at 11:30 am, Friday, March 6, 2026, at the First Baptist Church, 217 Fulton Street in Hanover, Pennsylvania. A viewing will precede the service at the Church, beginning at 10:30 am. In honor of Garnie, please feel free to wear your best Sunday hat to the service. Burial will be at Jefferson Cemetery in Jefferson. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 217 Fulton St., Hanover, PA 17331 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 3544 N.
