Garrett Baker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Homes on Mar. 14, 2026.
Garrett Lynn Baker, 68, passed away on March 8, 2026, at his home in Dalton, Georgia.

Born on October 3, 1957, in Knox County, Kentucky, Garrett was the son of the late Clyde "Buster" and Lena Mae Baker. He grew up in Harlan, Kentucky, attending Harlan Independent Schools.

Fueled by a youthful and insatiable curiosity about people and the world around him, he furthered his education by fearlessly embarking on a series of hitchhiking trips that took him across the United States.

Garrett was also known for his sharp mind and love of learning. An avid reader, he was well-versed in a wide range of subjects and particularly enjoyed engaging in spirited, thoughtful discussions on philosophical topics.

In addition to his parents, Garrett was preceded in death by his brothers, Steve Baker and Leon Baker.

He is survived by his sister, Michelle L. Browning, Harlan KY; his brothers, Robert L. Baker (Lisa), Dalton GA, Clyde Baker Jr. (Barbara), Elizabethtown KY, and his twin brother, Michael G. Baker, Dalton GA. He also leaves behind a very special long-time friend, Angela Fulghum, along with numerous aunts, cousins, and friends who will miss his intellect and unique spirit.

Per Garrett's request, his remains will be cremated, and no formal service will be held. The family requests that you honor his memory in your own special way.
