Garrey Charldene Dunn was born on June 6, 1936 in Hill County, Texas to the late Jeraline (Boiles) Dunn and Robert Marvin Dunn. He passed away peacefully at home on January 17, 2025 in Hurst, Texas at the age of 88.
He was born to sharecroppers and after moving away from the farm at age 8, he spent many hours fishing while his parents were at work. He graduated from the original Birdville High School in 1955. He retired from LTV/Vought in 1995 after 26 years of service. He enjoyed smoking wonderful meat for family gatherings where he loved playing dominoes, bridge, and 42. He was a deacon at Birdville Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert “Buster” Dunn and William “Billy” Dunn and sister, Ella “Sis” Burt; and son-in-law, Larry Ferrell.
Garrey is survived by his wife of over 67 years, Carolyn (Adair) Dunn of Hurst; son, Garrey C. “Buddy” Dunn, Jr. and wife, Melanie of Garland; son, Matthew Dunn and wife, Debra of Bridgeport; daughter, Cassandra Ferrell of Hurst; grandchildren, Bethany Dunn, Jarrod Ferrell, Garrey Michael Ferrell, Chad Moore, and Casey Kolkman and husband, Brandon; great-grandchildren, Cyler, Jaci, Aubrey, Lily, Dax, Knox, and Austin; sister-in-law, Ruby Dunn of Desoto; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of church family and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Friendship Baptist Church located at 1248 W. Hurst Blvd., Hurst, Texas 76053.
