His college degree in Chemical Engineering landed him a career with Corning Glass, bringing him and his family to the United States. As a second career he earned his teaching degree, and became a state-award winning mathematics teacher for John F. Kennedy Memorial High School in Mound Bayou, Mississippi. During life he was a volunteer soccer coach, swimming official, and a huge fan of Oklahoma sports. He was a modest man who always said his proudest achievement in life was his family.
He is survived by his two sons, Gerald and Steven (Jenny) Stewart; his three grandchildren, Andrew, Liam, and Madeleine Stewart; and his sister, Charlene Illman.
Garth's celebration of life service will be held on March 16, 2025 at 2:00 PM located at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church, 12251 Antioch Rd, Overland Park, KS 66213.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests making a donation to the American Cancer Society Donate Today | The American Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice in memory of Garth.
