Dale Sittig Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cremation Society of Kansas & Missouri - Overland Park on Jul. 8, 2025.
Dale Jordan Sittig, 89, of Overland Park, KS, passed away peacefully following a brief illness on May 31, 2025, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. A private interment with military rites will be held at Leavenworth Military Cemetery in Leavenworth, KS. A Celebration of life for Dale will be held from 1:00 - 4:00pm; Service at 2:30pm at The Gathering Place in the LongHouse Building on Friday, August 8 at The Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens.
Dale was born to Elmer and Edna (Nussbaum) Sittig on January 5, 1936, in Sioux Falls, SD, the oldest of four children. In 1952, the family moved to Beardsley, MN. Immediately after graduating from Beardsley High School in 1954, Dale joined the army and served in the Korean War as a Communication Strategist for the Army Corps of Engineers. In January 1959, he married the love of his life, Carole Holmblad, and went on to earn a B.S. in Agricultural Sciences from South Dakota State University in Brookings. After graduating, Dale joined Safeway, Inc., where he worked for 35 years as supervisor of the Safeway dairy processing plant until his retirement in 1996.
In 1971, Dale and Carole moved their family of four children to Overland Park, KS, where they remained for most of their married life.
Dale thoroughly enjoyed his retirement. He was a lifelong sports fan and especially devoted to KU basketball. An avid reader, his favorite book was the classic western by Jack Schaefer. He could fix anything, and often used his impressive tool collection to do repairs for friends and family. He also loved playing the slots at local casinos and enjoying a good meal at a restaurant. Though he was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Dale's best friend was his dog, a rescue named Buddy. Buddy and Dale were a fixture in their subdivision, where they walked three times a day.
Dale is survived by his beloved wife, Carole, of 67 years as well as his children: Steven (Tammy) Sittig, Pamela (Greg) Hendrickson, Kelly Sittig, and Jody (Jeff) Sight. He will be greatly missed by his five grandchildren: Hannah Briggs, Crystal Hendrickson, Kaylee Miller, David Hendrickson, and Jakob and Jordan Sight. Dale is also survived by four great-grandchildren as well as his sister, Arlyce Reick, and brother Gary Sittig. Dale was predeceased by his parents and his brother Harlan.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dale's memory to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
