Gary Alderson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sunset Funeral Home, Cremation Center & Cemetery on Mar. 3, 2026.
Gary Wayne Alderson, a gentle soul and cherished member of the Evansville community, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on September 23, 1948, in the very same town, Gary's life was a testament to his unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his passions.

Gary's journey began in Evansville, where he grew up surrounded by the warmth and love of his family and friends. After completing his education, he answered the call to serve his nation in the Navy, a period of his life that instilled in him a sense of discipline, honor, and camaraderie that he carried with him long after his service ended.

Upon returning to civilian life, Gary discovered a new passion that would become a defining aspect of his life: the art of grilling. His love for barbecuing was not just a hobby but a craft that he honed with precision and joy. His expertise and enthusiasm for BBQ led him to become a respected judge within the Kansas City BBQ Society, where he was known for his fair and knowledgeable palate and the gentle encouragement he offered competitors.

Though Gary's life was filled with many joys, it was also marked by the profound love he shared with his wife, Lynne Alderson, for 33 years. Lynne preceded him in death, and the bond they shared continues to be an inspiration to all who knew them. Their love was a beacon of devotion, mutual respect, and unwavering support. Gary dearly loved many family members.

Gary leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and a life well-lived. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. As we bid farewell to Gary Wayne Alderson, we celebrate a life that, though no longer with us in body, continues to inspire and influence us in spirit., but his gentle legacy will continue to resonate within the community of Evansville and beyond.

Gary and his family would like to show appreciation to the nurses at DaVita Kidney Care East.

If anyone would like to make a contribution, Gary requested that contributions be sent to Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
