Hampden Gary Edwin Allen, age 88 years, of Hampden, Maine, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025. Born on August 11, 1937 in
Presque Isle, Maine he was the son of the late S. Edwin and Dorothy Allen.
He grew up in Westfield, Maine on his parents' potato farm. He graduated from ACI, Mars Hill, Maine in 1955. He attended the University of Maine, Orono from 1955 to 1959 where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics and Farm Management. He was a member of the Lamda Chi fraternity and Future Farmers of America when he attended UMaine. When Gary was in college he enlisted in the Air National Guard.
After graduating from college, Gary moved to Mars Hill where he worked for many years with his father at the Mars Hill Implement Company. In 1997 Gary and Linda moved to Wilton, Maine where he worked for a farm equipment supplier and later for Wiles Funeral Home prior to retiring. Gary was a member of the Mars Hill Rotary Club where he was the president for a year and of the Wilton Lion's Club. He was raised to the Degree of a Master Mason at the Aroostook Lodge in Mars Hill April 8,1968. In 1980 Gary became a Shriner of Anah Temple. Gary and Linda moved to Hampden, Maine in 2011 to enjoy their retirement years and looked forward to going to Fort Pierce, FL during the winter months.
He married the love of his life, Linda Crichton, on October 12, 1960. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2025. He is survived by his son, Krayton Allen & his wife, Carol Allen, of Hermon, his daughter, Kelli Felkel, and her husband, Dan Felkel, of Cumberland, his brother, Carl Allen,and wife Rita of Westfield and brother-in-law David Ruttenberg of Auburn. Gary was preceded in death by his sister, Gail Ruttenburg.
Gary enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren, Andrew Cimino and his partner, Nikki Faietta, of Cumberland, James Allen and his wife, Libby, of Hermon, Jessica McGary & her husband, DJ, of Hermon, Haley Felkel, Sarah Felkel and her partner, Nathan Shultz all from Cumberland and his 2 great granddaughters, Grace Cimino and Amanda Allen.
Gary was known for his great sense of humor and he had a love for telling stories about his experiences as a volunteer on the Mars Hill ambulance and fire department and raising Polled Herford's in Blaine, Maine on HAD Ranch. He was an avid cribbage player and he liked to play bocce when he wintered with his wife in Fort Pierce, Florida. Gary was also a reader of mysteries, politics and crime novels.
A funeral will be held at the Mars Hill Methodist Church on December 6, 2025 with viewing beginning at 12 noon and the funeral service starting at 1 pm. A reception will held after the service at the Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Aroostook House of Comfort, 18 Green Hill Road,
