It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Franklin Anderson, 70, of Gloucester Point, VA, on April 27, 2025. Born on October 26, 1954, in Buffalo, NY, Gary is survived by his sons, Sean (Kiley), Chase (Katie), and Lee. His grandsons, Charlie and Soren. His sibling,s Lynn (Jim) Drilling, Marcia, and John (Michaela) and preceded in death by his parents Franklin and Mildred Anderson. Gary will be deeply missed by his extended family of nieces and nephews, friends, colleagues, and all who knew him. Gary was a proud graduate of Southampton College of Long Island University and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS). Through his 46 years as a VIMS staff member, he exemplified the spirit of their community through his dedication to learning, research, and service. Gary supported countless students, faculty, and researchers with his information technology expertise. He will be remembered not only for his technical prowess but also for his kindness, mentorship, leadership, and ability to bring people together. Gary was an avid golfer, sailor, fisherman, and auto racing enthusiast. In memory of Gary, memorial contributions may be made to VIMS General Graduate Student Support Endowment (tinyurl.com/GaryFA). Services are private and under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home & Crematory.
