Gary Richard Anderson, 80, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on February 16, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A private family inurnment will be held in the summer of 2026 at English River Church of the Brethren Cemetery in South English, Iowa.
Gary was born on December 30, 1945, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Richard Bliss Anderson and Dorothy M. Gallentine. He was a 1964 graduate of Marshalltown High School and went on to earn his associate’s degree from Marshalltown Community College and his business degree from the University of Northern Iowa. On October 27, 1972, Gary was united in marriage to Patricia L. Claypool in Marion. They lived in Marion the remainder of their lives. Gary worked at Harnischfeger Ind. and Lennox Ind., retiring in 2005.
Gary enjoyed University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and University of Northern Iowa sports, as well as the Minnesota Vikings. He also enjoyed reading history and forensic books, jigsaw puzzles, and politics.
Gary is survived and lovingly remembered by his three children, Jocelyn (Kevin) Sutherland, Justin (Trisha) Anderson, and Jillian Anderson; and grandchildren, Ethan and Ella Sutherland and Willow Walker.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
